Growing Trend, Presence not Presents
According to an article in The New York Times, more and more parents are asking that guests at their children's birthday parties bring contributions for the child's favorite charity rather than presents. As many people are having children later-in-life, when they are more financially stable, they are politely requesting "presence" instead of presents. This hold true not just for birthdays, but for weddings and anniversaries as well.
PARC's Parties for PARC program is in answer to this growing trend of directing loved ones to donate to a cause instead of adding to clutter. One of the benefits of holding a Party for PARC is teaching children philanthropy and a sense of making a difference in their community. Guests get the "feel good" benefit as well as a tax deduction without the stress of picking out the perfect gift and worrying if it will need to be exchanged.
