PARC Cruising Along

27 PARC participants along with staff and volunteers cruised along at the 12th Annual Ron Robb Special People's Cruise on June 7, 2008.

A fun day was had by all who participated in this event at the Starved Rock Yacht Club. It was a hot day but everyone kept their cool on the beautiful Illinois River. While storms lay on the horizon, the held off long enough to allow participants to bask in the sunshine.

The annual event is hosted by the Starved Rock Yacht Club near Ottawa, Illinois. Members of the Club donate their time and the use of their personal boats to take people with disabilities, their caretakers, and families for a scenic ride on the Illinois River.

The ride lasted for about an hour. Participants sailed through Buffalo Rock State Park and saw many birds, fish and wildlife. Many of those participating had never had the opportunity to ride on a boat before!

After the boat ride, the Starved Rock Yacht Club hosted a free lunch of hotdogs and soda. In addition to cruising along the Illinois River, there was a DJ playing tunes, people dancing and lots of games to play and prizes to win. In addtition to participants from PARC, there were several hundred other people enjoying the boat rides and games. This event is surely worth the drive from Peoria!
