A Family Tradition Makes a Difference at PARC
The Waters family exemplifies how small change can add up and make a big difference! John and Barbara Waters brought in 3 large, make that REALLY LARGE, jars of pennies to PARC's Townline facility on Tuesday, August 5, 2008.
John and Barbara Waters' grandchildren, Lauren and Sarah, began collecting the pennies over 18 years ago. They had an old terrarium that became the family piggy bank. Over the years, every member of the family had made regular "deposits" to the terrarium. A family tradition sprang from the penny collection. Every year on Thanksgiving the family would get together and bake Christmas cookies and then go about the task of counting the pennies.
John and Barbara Waters have a strong connection with PARC. Their daughter Julie Waters participates in PARC's Community Living program and resides in one of PARC's Group Homes. Julie has participated in PARC programs and services for over 20 years.
Barbara Waters read about the Pennies for PARC events at Culver's andSAM's CLUB in the PARC E-news & Views and got the idea to make the donation. The Waters family had collected over 13,000 pennies, 13736 to be exact!
