HOIUW Taking Action for PARC
WMBD/WYZZ reporter Lisa Miller visited PARC's Marlene Group Home to see for herself how the Heart of Illinois United Way (HOIUW) Takes Action for PARC and for Central Illinois.
The news story will air on Monday, August 4, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. on WMBD 31. After it airs it will be posted on their website at www.ciproud.com.
The news story profiles PARC participant Howard Koch (who just celebrated his 80th birthday!) and highlights how HOIUW funding of PARC programs enable individuals like Howard to participate in a quality life.
Howard lives with seven other housemates in one of PARC's Group Homes. He has been a participant of PARC services since 1972. Over the years, PARC has supported his changing health and medical needs and facilitated life choices so that Howard can live safely and independently. His participation in PARC's Adult Developmental Services and Older Adults Services allows him to lead an active lifestyle and pursue his interests. He enjoys attending Bradley basketball games, Peoria Chiefs baseball games, and dining out.
PARC's Residential Services program enhances the quality of life for our senior participants by helping to delay or eliminate the need for them to move to nursing home facilitites. HOIUW funding for this program helps to insure that PARC will continue to give Howard and other individuals a Place to Call Home.
