The Master Gardeners Spring into Action for PARC!

Spring is a time to celebrate new life and growth. PARC’s Enabling Garden does just that. Thanks to the Peoria County Master Gardeners, PARC’s Enabling Garden helps participants thrive and grow through classes and gardening projects.

The benefits to PARC participants are numerous: gardening requires strength, dexterity and coordination and helps improve fine motor control and hand-eye coordination, improves muscle strength and endurance, and stimulates the senses. Attending classes and working on gardening projects stimulates the brain and can improve memory and concentration. Participants gain socialization skills by interacting in a group to achieve a common goal.

Peoria County Master Gardener volunteers work with PARC staff and participants to customize an inclusive horticulture therapy program, adapted to meet the needs of a variety of individuals. Adapted tools, raised beds, benches and tables, and wheelchair accessibility are all part of the program.

As the Peoria County Master Gardeners gear up for the spring and summer gardening season, you can show your support by volunteering and donating needed supplies to the PARC Enabling Garden. The fruits of your labor will go a long way to providing choices for a quality life!
