Laura and Tom McNeal Keynote Speakers
PARC is very pleased to announce that Laura and Tom McNeal are our Keynote Speakers for the 2008 PARC Annual Awards Banquet on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the Par-A-Dice Hotel ballroom. The Annual Awards Banquet is PARC's opportunity to say THANK YOU to everyone who gives so much to PARC in support of People Advocating for Respect and Consideration of individuals with developmental disabilities and providing choices for a quality life.
Laura & Tom McNeal are the prize-winning authors of short stories, essays, and five novels, including four for young adults. Their critically-acclaimed young adult novels include The Decoding of Lana Morris, Crushed, Zipped, and Crooked.
Lana Morris likes to draw. But when she buys an old drawing kit in an antique store, she draws things that happen. Rainstorms. Car accidents. Mole-expungement. It seems, in fact, that she now has the power to wish things away, and to wish them into being. But what should she really wish? The authors volunteered at an ARC chapter in their hometown in California and several of the central characters in this book were inspired by people they met while volunteering. They are donating a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book to The ARC of the USA.
