Class topic: House plants: spider plants
Lesson planner: Sheri Schorr
Lesson summary: Start spider plants and place under
the grow lights in VS
Classroom supplies needed: potting soil, small containers,
spider plants, plastic protective table cover, hand spades
to transfer soil.

Class topic: Spring flowers tulips
Lesson planner(s): Angela Zimmerman and Kandy Bernal
Lesson summary: Tulips bulbs were planted in the fall
and soon will be popping up in yards. Deer love to eat
tulips. Deer have eaten the tulips in the PARC garden.
Lesson craft: Make tulips on card stock by gluing food
dyed colored half shell egg shells to paper with green
leaves drawn on with crayons.
Supplies needed: colored half shell egg shells, glue, card
stock, crayons

Class topic: More spring flowers Daffodils and grape
hyacinths

Lesson summary: These bulbs are also planted in the fall.
Deer don't like to eat daffodils.
Lesson craft: We will glue food colored dyed crushed egg
shells to outline of spring flowers on card stock.
Lesson supplies: colored crushed egg shells, glue, card
stock, magic markers

Lesson summary: Various stages of sprouting - from
seed to plnt will be discussed.
Lesson craft: Sprouted mung beans at various stages
will be available for handling and viewing by participants
Lesson supplies: Clear small glass jelly jars with lids

Thursday, May 15, 2008 - 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Class topic: Study of Trees
Lesson planner (s): Kandy Bernal and Angela Zimmerman
Lesson summary: Study how trees take up moisture.
Lesson craft: Participants will craft vests from brown
paper bags simulating tree bark. Inside the vest,
participants will glue straws to illustrate how moisture
moves through a tree trunk. Yarn will be used on
participants feet to show how the tree draws moisture up
from the ground. In addition, a demonstration using white
paper towels and colored water will show how moisture
is drawn up into the tissues of the tree.
Lesson supplies: Brown paper grocery bags, drinking
straws, glue, leaves, tree bark and yarn.
