Special Olympics Update
The Special Olympics State Bowling competition is set for December 1, 2007. If you would like to cheer on the PARC athletes, please contact Kelly Stegall at (309) 689-3610.
PARC athletes practiced throughout the summer to hone their bowling skills. All practice sessions and Special Olympics Competitions were held at Landmark Lanes in Peoria. PARC wishes to thank the Landmark Lanes and their staff whose support makes it possible for PARC athletes to participate in Special Olympics Bowling. PARC athletes benefit from increased social interaction….inclusion for a wide range of individuals
Bowling is one of the fastest growing Special Olympics sports. Participating in bowling allows individuals with developmental disabilities to develop key skills necessary to improve their health and fitness. Special Olympics groups athletes according to ability level, age and gender to give the participants greater self-confidence and a more positive self-image.
Participation in Special Olympics events empowers athletes to improve their physical fitness and motor skills. They grow mentally, socially, and spiritually through the sports training and competition. Involvement with Special Olympics is just one way that PARC is dedicated to empowering individuals with developmental disabilities to participate in a positive quality life.
